Last night, the artist that will represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 was selected. The final of Eurosong 2016 took place in the AED studios in Lint and, after five artists competed, 19-year-old Laura Tesoro with her song ‘What’s The Pressure‘ was chosen as the winner. Tesoro will now head to Stockholm in May.

The guest experts for the final were Christer Björkman, Producer for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 (and I will never understand why countries choose someone from another country to have that much influence on their own Eurovision song?), and Hadise, the artist that represented Belgium at Eurovision 2009.

Sadly, however, while none of the Belgian songs had ‘Eurovision winner’ written on them, and while Laura Tesoro is a talented performer, ‘What’s The Pressure‘ is entirely the wrong song for Tesoro’s voice. It is also a dated disco song that is not likely to interest the Eurovision audience at all.

I’m guessing 2016 will be another year Belgium doesn’t make it through to the finals. Not unless the rest of the field in their particular semi is poor. Or unless this song is completely revamped, and given some depth, before Stockholm.

Listen to and watch Laura Tesoro singing ‘What’s The Pressure‘ in the video below. You might think differently.
