Listen to The Icicle Works ‘Whisper to a Scream (Birds Fly)‘ from Stranger Things

I think it is difficult to think of a TV series that has had a better modern music soundtrack than the Netflix exclusive ‘Stranger Things‘ with its superb classic 1980s indie music soundtrack.

Because that music-packed series includes iconic songs like British alternative rock band The Icicle Works ‘Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly)‘, which was featured on ‘Stranger Things‘ season 2, episode 7, “The Lost Sister” as the ending song for the episode.

And if that wasn’t enough of a cool song to please any discriminating music lover, the same episode also included tracks from the Philip Glass Ensemble, Bon Jovi, Big Giant Circles, Fad Gadget, John Carpenter, and The Runaways.

The Icicle Works ‘Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly)‘ is the first single from the band’s self-titled debut album, which was released in 1984, and was the only top 40 song The Icicle Works ever had.

The Icicle Works was founded in 1980, and was recording and touring until 1991 when they broke up.

During that time, they released five full-length albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, three EPs and more than 20 single.

Yep, the band was quite prolific in just a decade, eh?

After a break of 15 years, during which time lead singer Ian McNabb had a quite successful solo career, the band was reformed and still play several live shows around the UK every year although they have not released new music in eons.

Listen to The Icicle Works’ ‘Whisper To A Scream (Birds Fly)’ in the video below, and on Spotify via the platform’s plugin. It is so so brilliant.
