I am not a huge classical music fan. In fact, I rarely listen to it. And I know absolutely nothing about it.

But there are some pieces that I love, and one in particular that has been stuck in my head since it was used for a video promoting Life Ball 2015 almost two years ago. A video starring the mesmerizingly beautiful Austrian singer Conchita Wurst.

That piece of course is Franz Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 100, D. 929, in E-flat Major 2nd movent. A piece you will likely have heard in a number of superb movies already, including The Piano Teacher, The Hunger, and Crimson Tide.

And I’ve had this piece in my head again today, after I heard it during the pilot of the NBC series ‘The Blacklist’. A show I am currently binge watching on Netflix.

And then came across this incredible YouTube recording of Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 100, D. 929, in E-flat Major 2nd movement from the Vienna Piano Trio. Or, as they are known in German — Wiener Klaviertrio.

Because the Vienna Piano Trio’s recording of Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 100, D. 929, in E-flat Major 2nd movement is one of the clearest and most precise you will ever hear. In fact, it’s stunning. Even on a YouTube video that does not have the clarity an album or CD would have.

The Vienna Piano Trip, by the way, is David McCarroll on the violin, Matthias Gredler on the cello and Stefan Mendl on the piano.

Listen to and watch their recording of Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 100, D. 929, in E-flat Major 2nd movement in the video below. It was recorded in the Mozart Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus in September, 2015. And it is stunning.
