I don’t watch a huge amount of movies at the movie theater, but I am always still interested in which movie is top at the box office, as it gives me ideas for movies to add to my list to see online or to watch through Amazon Prime. To track them, I tend to use Hollywood Reporter, as they put out a short, nicely edited video every Monday of the top 5 movies at the US box office for the previous weekend. They also include interesting facts about the film, the actor or the director, so it’s not just dry information you’re getting.
Case in point, this weekend’s video is now out and here are the top 5 movies at the US box office for October 16th through 18th.
At number 5 – Hotel Transylvania 2, which grossed $12.3 million at the domestic box office and $30.6 million internationally.
At number 4 – Crimson Peak, which grossed $12.8 million at the US domestic box office and $13.4 million internationally.
At number 3 – Bridge of Spies, grossing $15.4 million domestically, with no international receipts as yet. It’s Steven Spielberg’s latest movie and from an Ethan and Joel Coen screenplay, so it’s top of my list to see.
At number 2 – The Martian – Ridley Scott’s new movie which is doing phenomenally well worldwide. US domestic box office grossed $21.5 million, and internationally $37 million just this week. Total international receipts since release are already at $175.4 million.
At number 1 – Goosebumps — no surprise here, as the Goosebumps books by R.L. Stine have been huge for decades. US domestic box office receipts are the only ones currently available but they are already at $23.5 million since the movies release just three days ago.
Check out all of the top 5 movies at the US box office for October 16th-18th in the video below. And, yes, three of them are now on my list of movies to watch.
