As we wait not-so-patiently for Season 2 of the anime to hit, the 11th in a series of Kaiju No. 8’s ‘100 Views of Monsters‘ visuals was released earlier today via the anime’s official website, and via its X account.
This time, the new Kaiju No. 8 visual features protagonist Kafka as Kaiju No. 8 crouching down on what looks like a fence staring at a group of carp streamers affixed to a boat mast.
The visual came with the short message:
May is carp streamer visual. Carp streamer…monster streamer…?
The new Kaiju No. 8 visual is one of an ongoing series, with new ones being released on the 8th of every month, and with their themes dependent on the time of year.
So far we have had Kikoru enjoying the sakura blossoms on a picnic with Konomi and Mina, Kikoru, Kafka and Reno praying at a snowy shrine, and Kafka and Reno cleaning up after a monster takedown among others.
You can see, and download big-enough-for-computer-screen-wallpapers, all 11 currently released visuals via the anime’s website, and look out for the 12th in the series on June 8th.
Upcoming Kaiju No. 8, Season 2 details
Like its first season, Season 2 of Kaiju No. 8 is based on the hit manga series written and illustrated by mangaka Naoya Matsumoto. (An English-language translation is available via VIZ Media).
The first season of the smash-hit action adventure sci-fi anime series premiered on April 13th, 2024 and ran through June 29th of the same year.
Its second season was confirmed as being in production immediately the first season ended, and with its 2025 premiere announced a couple of months later along with a cool video.
Just like Season 1, Kaiju No. 8 is being directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya, with Ichirou Ookouchi back in charge of series composition and scripts, and Tetsuya Nishio again designing the characters, as well as serving as chief animation director.
Production I.G. (Attack on Titan) is again animating the series, with TOHO Animation and a slew of others producing.
As for the plot, here is the original blurb from Volume 1 of the Japanese manga series:
In Japan—a country with one of the highest kaiju emergence rates in the world—monsters ruthlessly invade daily life. Hibino Kafka, once an aspiring defense force member, now works in kaiju cleanup. But one day, after an encounter with a mysterious creature, his body mutates into a kaiju.
Labeled “Kaiju No. 8” by the Japan Defense Force (the very organization tasked with exterminating monsters), Kafka finds himself torn between humanity and monstrosity.
