Given (Zoku-hen) to come out in two separate parts
The boys’ love anime series Given aired in 2019, and was so successful a Given film concentrating on the relationship between Akihiko and Haruki was released in August, 2020.
Now a second Given film is on its way — Given (Zoku-hen) — with studio Blue Lynx announcing today the upcoming film will be released in two parts.
No more details about the second Given film have been released as yet, but an over 8-minute long retrospective video came out on the Aniplex YouTube channel today (watch below) reminding us of some of the events that took place during the 11-episode anime series, as well as in the first Given film.
Unfortunately, the Given retrospective video does not include English subtitles but, if you saw both the Given anime series and the first Given film, you should easily be able to figure out what is going on.
What is the Given anime about?
Given is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Natsuki Kizu.
It tells the story of four young men — Ritsuka Uenoyama, Mafuyu Satō, Haruki Nakayama and Akihiko Kaji — who get together to form an indie rock band, and the romantic relationships that soon develop between them.
The manga spawned an anime series, a follow up Given film, and a live-action TV drama, with the second Given film — Given (Zoku-hen) now on its way.
The Given manga is also available in English via Sublime, who explains the story like this:
Ritsuka Uenoyama is bored with it all—with school, with his basketball club, and even with his one true passion: playing guitar. That is, until the day he finds his favorite hidden napping spot occupied by a strange boy cradling a broken-stringed guitar.
At first, Uenoyama is nonplussed by Mafuyu Sato and his slightly odd behavior, but when, on a whim, he asks Mafuyu to sing, the power of that song pierces him to the core.
Check out the Given anime retrospective video below, and you will remember just why you loved the series and the wonderful characters in it.
