New From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman trailer

As for the fantasy anime’s latest trailer, it kicks off with Beryl trying to get Mewi comfortable with living in his house now that the young girl has officially moved in.

Not long after, though, we see Allucia, who is suddenly thrilled as she gets to go on a “date” with Beryl. Until the appearance of Rose Marbleheart who, apparently, is as big of a flirt as the rest of Beryl’s harem. Go figure!

The latest trailer ends with Beryl having been roped into yet another mission by Allucia and, like always, this one is far more difficult and life threatening than he was told.

Production details for From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman

The anime is adapted from the light novel series written by Shigeru Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima.

But, as fans of the novel and its manga adaptation will tell you, is a very loose adaptation. Something some people hate. (Personally, I read the manga series and the changes in the anime don’t bother me one bit).

It is being directed by Akio Kazumi (Loner Life in Another World), with Kunihiko Okada (The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy) in charge of scripts and series composition, and Satsuki Hayasaki (Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki) both designing the characters and co-chief animation director alongside three others.

The plot of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is described like this in Volume 1 of the light novel:

Beryl Gardenant is a man who runs a small swordsmanship dojo in a village in the countryside. But where is the glory of being a swordsman that he once dreamed of?

Nowadays, he calls himself a “humble old man”. “Am I going to quietly grow old like this?” he wonders absentmindedly.

One day, his former student, Allucia, who rose to become the head of the kingdom’s knights at a young age, comes to visit him. “I have recommended you as a special instructor for the knights.”

“What?” Beryl, still confused, leaves for the royal capital, and meets one after another with his accomplished students, including the highest-ranking adventurer and ace magician, and they ask him to teach them!?

“I’m definitely not needed anymore…” is the only one who belittles himself.

His swordsmanship, which he has cultivated for many years, is now unmatched, and his achievements have earned him a reputation in the capital as the “countryside sword saint” – “Isn’t that title uncool!?” The “master” of the strongest students is finally rewarded in this fantasy about an old man rising to power!
