Alex Kingston has announced her character River Song will be returning to the Doctor Who Christmas special this year. The first time she has been on the show since her last appearance on series seven in 2013. It will also be the first time Kingston has appeared with the latest incarnation of the Doctor, played by actor Peter Capaldi.
Kingston, of course, is delighted to be back on the show as she told the British newspaper The Telegraph.
“I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team.”
It should be interesting when she initially meets the Doctor as, of course, River Song is his wife. Although, with the way she often meets him as she travels through time (one instance it being his first meeting while it was her last), who knows how the series will portray this latest one.
As for Alex Kingston, while famous as the Doctor’s River Song, she is also known for her portrayal of a doctor herself — Dr. Elizabeth Corday on the long-running NBC TV series ‘ER‘.
The Doctor Who Christmas special for series nine featuring River Song is currently in filming. Series nine of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi show, premieres on the BBC on September 19th.
