Austrian singer Conchita Wurst won the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest last night with her song ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’. The song, and her performance, gained her 290 points in the competition, putting her 52 points ahead of The Netherlands, who finished in second place.
Conchita Wurst, aka Tom Neuwirth, is a drag artist who was chosen by Austrian television station ORF to represent the country after two years of the public choosing the song and singer not getting the results they would have liked.
Looks like ORF made the right decision, as not only did Conchita Wurst give an amazing performance, both in the semi-finals and finals of Eurovision, the audience both in the hall and on TV absolutely loved her as well.
All I can say is Conchita Wurst has to be one of the best winners of the Eurovision Song Contest that I can ever remember. I’ve watched her performance now at least 15 times, and I’m moved to tears every time.
Watch her performance in the second semi-finals below to see what I mean.
Finally, remember, you can buy Conchita Wurst’s Rise Like a Phoenix on all major digital music sites, where it is rapidly heading up the charts.
