Upcoming action fantasy anime Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon has a new visual and a teaser trailer (below) out today, as well as a premiere date — of sorts.
That premiere date is “Fall, 2025” (“October, 2025” has also previously been bandied around), so it has been narrowed down somewhat.
The new Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon visual features protagonist Light hitting his ‘Infinite Gacha’ and looking ecstatic as he draws his SUR card “Mei the Seeker Maid”.
Other characters stand in the shadows behind him — the level 9999 allies Light gathers around him so that he can get back at those who wronged him.
Along with the visual, which was released via the anime’s official X account, the production team commented about the plot:
He was nearly killed by his trusted companions deep in the dungeon.
But with the gift of the “Infinite Gacha” he gets level a new party of 9999 companions and takes revenge on his former party members and the world, saying “Serves you right!”
Meanwhile, the Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon teaser trailer also shows Light activating his Infinite Gacha and looking happy as he pulls Level 9999 “Mei the Seeker Maid”.
And, from the brief glimpse we also get of her, it seems she immediately goes into battle to protect her new master.
Light and Mei character designs
Character designs for Light and Mei were also released, along with the CVs of the voice actors playing them:
Nina Tamaki (Mathias in The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest) is voicing Light, while Ikumim Hasegawa (Ikuyo KIta in Bocchi the Rock!) plays Mei.
Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon details
Titled with another ridiculously long Japanese title — Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out For Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World — the anime is adapted from a light novel series by Shisui Meikyo and tef, and a manga series.
According to Volume 1 of the original Japanese light novel, the Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon plot goes like this:
The adventurer party “Gathering of Races” was formed under the ideal of equality among the nine races.
But, betrayed by his companions and cast into the depths of the most treacherous dungeon, the “Abyss,” the only human, a boy named Light, is left with nothing but what was thought to be a useless skill—“Infinite Gacha”!
But, from the worst possible circumstances, the boy’s dramatic reversal begins when he uses the blessing of “Infinite Gacha” to pull someone who will soon save him.
The anime adaptation is being directed by DanMachi director Katsushi Sakurabi, with Hiroshi Oonogi (GeGeGe no Kitaro) in charge of series composition, and Yukie Suzuki (Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) designing the characters.
J.C.Staff (Sugar Apple Fairy Tale) is in charge of animation production.
Enjoy the new Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon visual, character visuals and trailer, and look out for the anime premiering some time in the fall (October?).
Because, I don’t know about you, but I’m all in for a revenge anime, right?
