Bloom’ by Girlish Number one of cooler anime songs of recent years

Bloom‘ by Girlish Number, the opening theme song from the Girlish Number anime series, is one of the cooler anime songs of recent years.

We first hear the song in the second episode of the series, as a special fan event song opens the first episode, and it soon begins to earworm itself into your head due to its addictive melody and cute vocals.

Bloom‘ is sung by voice actresses Sayaka Senbongi, Kaede Hondo, Yui Ishikawa, Eri Suzuki and Saori Ōnishi, aka Girlish Number.

The anime Girlish Number itself is a 12-episode series that was produced by anime studio Diomedéa and released in late 2016, but sadly did not get a second series.

It tells the story of newbie voice actress Chitose who is desperate to become famous in the anime industry, but is only being given bit parts.

Managed by her older brother Gojō, she is becoming disillusioned with the entire industry when an opportunity comes along for her to play a major role as one of five idol stars.

As the series progresses, however, we get to see just how the anime and related industries are not all sweetness and light as we are sometimes led to believe.

In other words, if you want to learn more about the anime industry in Japan, and some of the struggles the people working in it go through, Girlish Number is an excellent companion to the equally superb hit series Shirobako.

Listen to ‘Bloom‘ by Girlish Number and watch the anime series’ cute opening sequence in the video below.

And yes, if you haven’t watched it yet, you are missing a treat.
