2K Games has no plans to release Civilization Online in North America
Civilization Online will not be released in North America any time soon. Well, thank heavens for small mercies, as that’s made my day.
That’s because, according to the MMO’s developer, XL Games, Civilization Online is only being created for the Korean gaming market at the moment with no plans to expand it anywhere else.
It makes a lot of sense actually, as just looking at yesterday’s Civilization Online video trailer release, it’s obvious the game has a completely Korean/Asian style to it. A style which, being in Asia, I can tell you Asian gamers love while many western gamers really don’t.
And, as 2K Games PR Manager Brian Roundy has just told gaming magazine PC Gamer:
“Civilization Online is developed by South Korea-based XL Games in partnership with 2K, and will be available first in Korea. No release date has been set. There are no plans for a North American release at this time.”
Weird, isn’t it? I can’t remember the last time I’ve celebrated a game not being available in North America but, with Civilization Online, I couldn’t be happier.
I’ll bet Sid Meier is probably doing the happy dance as well.
