For those, like me, who grew up watching ITV’s ‘Coronation Street’, the world’s longest running soap opera, you’ll be sad to see the last minutes of Jack Duckworth’s life.
Filmed for the 50 year anniversary of ‘Coronation Street’, actor Bill Tarmey, who plays Duckworth, had decided he wanted to end his 31 year career with the show by going out in style – during the anniversary show.
So, he was filmed, dancing with the ghost of his beloved wife, Vera Duckworth (played by Liz Dawn) who died on the show a few years ago, before dying himself of a heart attack while sitting alone at home in a chair by the fire.
Coronation Street is the UK’s most beloved show. From a 13 episode series in 1960, that was never expected to survive, it’s now in its 50th year of production.
One actor, William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, is the only actor to have been in the series from its very first episode until today.
