Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S delayed again — this time until 2022

It is only just over a month ago Polish developer CD Projekt Red announced Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S may be delayed until 2022.

Today, that prediction has come true with the developer announcing Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will definitely be delayed until 2022.

A release date sometime in the first quarter is currently expected.

Of course, this being CD Projekt Red, a company that now has a history of problems at launch after the abysmal way the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 was released, the delay for console versions of the game is not that surprising.

Not when you consider the PC launch of the game was such a disaster, they obviously don’t want to have to go through that again.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also delayed until 2022

It is not only Cyberpunk 2077 that is being delayed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S either, as the developer says The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won’t be out this year as expected.

That announcement came on Twitter a few hours ago, with the company saying about the delay:

Based on recommendations supplied by teams supervising the development of both games, we decided to postpone their releases until 2022. Our current target for Cyberpunk 2077 is the first quarter of 2022, and second quarter of 2022 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Apologies for the extended wait, but we want to make it right.

In other words, damned if they do as gamers hate delays like this, and damned if they don’t.

After all, if Cyberpunk 2077 hadn’t been delayed, but then turned out to be a terrible port, players would be just as furious too.
