Dark Gathering Season 1 getting 2 cours with a possible 24 episodes – premieres on July 9th

Dark Gathering, Season 1 will be a long one — Yay!

Anyone who has been reading the first volume of the Dark Gathering manga, and knows anything about its Japanese version, probably knows there is a lot of upcoming material the supernatural horror series will cover once the English translation catches up to its Japanese original.

Sure, with only one volume out in English so far and Dark Gathering, Volume 13 coming out in Japanese in August, it may take a while.

But all those volumes definitely bode well for the recently announced Dark Gathering anime series to have the potential to run for more than one season.

No surprise then with all that material out there the anime’s official Twitter account has just tweeted an announcement that Dark Gathering, Season 1 will have 2 cours.

For a total of (probably?) 24 episodes.

No word yet on whether that means 24 episodes back-to-back, or split up into two separate time periods with a break in between (fingers crossed it’s the former), but it is likely we will find that out the closer we get to the supernatural horror anime’s premiere.

Meanwhile, we do know that premiere will take place on July 9th via HIDIVE.

What is Dark Gathering?

The Dark Gathering anime is based on the popular manga series that was written and illustrated by Kenichi Kondou.

The manga began serializing on the Jump Square magazine in early 2019, with 12 tankōbon volumes also being published, and a thirteenth one due out soon.

VIZ Media is currently publishing the Dark Gathering manga series in English, with one volume out, the second one due on July 18th and already up for pre-order, and the third volume on September 19th.

VIZ explains the plot like this:

Keitarou is ready to stop living as a shut-in. He’s starting university. He’s reconnecting with his childhood friend. He’s taking a tutoring job. And he’s not messing around with ghosts anymore.

At least that’s what he thinks, until he finds out the elementary schooler he’s tutoring is an occult-obsessed genius who’s hunting down dangerous spirits and won’t stop until she’s found the one that took her mom!

The Dark Gathering anime series is being directed by Hiroshi Ikehata (TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You), with scripts and series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi (I’m Quitting Heroing), and Shinya Segawa (Rokudo’s Bad Girls) as character designer.

Nobunaga Shimazaki is voicing Keitarou, and Yuu Sasahara is playing Yayoi.
