The first character trailer from the upcoming mystery comedy anime Detectives These Days Are Crazy! has been released via the anime’s X account and, if you weren’t as excited about the new Liden Films-animated series as I am, watch this and you will be.
Especially if you enjoy an anime populated by quirky and weird characters, and who always seem to be involved in the strangest situations.
That character trailer is for Detectives These Days Are Crazy’s protagonist Mashiro — a high school who decides she wants to help a middle-aged detective do his job.
But not just any high school girl, as the Mashiro character trailer will quickly point out.
Nope, instead one who seems to be absolutely nuts, and who will definitely make a big impact on Nagumo’s life boring life.
Mashiro’s character trailer is one of four currently scheduled to be released, with one more coming out every week for each of the next three weeks. It also follows on from a joint character PV that was released for supporting characters Yuu Asunaro/Hana Kazamaki back in October.
The crazy, but very funny, Mashiro is voiced by Kana Hanazawa (Hotaru in A Condition Called Love), by the way.
Detectives These Days Are Crazy! production details
The upcoming detective-themed anime (aka Mattaku Saikin no Tantei to Kitara) is based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi.
The series has 15 volumes out in Japanese, with One Peace Books just publishing Volume 1 of the series on April 25th (available on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble).
The manga’s anime adaptation is being directed by Rion Kujou (The Legendary Hero Is Dead!), with Rintarou Ikeda (Insomniacs After School) in charge of series composition, and Isoroku Koga both designing the characters and also chief animation director.
Liden Films (Call of the Night) is animating the adaptation.
As for the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! plot, the first volume of the original Japanese manga series describes it like this:
Instantly solving difficult cases that have shocked the world! His name is the great detective Keiichiro Nagumo!!
But that was over 10 years ago…. Now Nagamo has become just a boring old man…
He has been left behind by the times and can’t even use a smartphone, but then a young high school girl named Mashiro comes to him wanting to be his assistant –!?
The first episode of Detectives These Days Are Crazy! premieres in July, 2025, so just a couple of months away now.
