Devolver Digital says you can monetize their games on YouTube

Unlike Microsoft, which went out of its way last year to make sure nobody could monetize videos of their games on YouTube Let’s Plays and walkthroughs (spoilsports!), Devolver Digital has no problem with it. In fact, Devolver Digital says it’s perfectly happy for you to monetize their games on sites like YouTube, DailyMotion and Twitch in Let’s Plays, walkthroughs or anything else you want to do with them — they frankly don’t care.

Sounds to me like Devolver, with this statement, is proving they are much smarter than Microsoft, as they’ve already figured out allowing people to do Let’s Plays and walkthroughs of all of the games they produce is free advertising for them. Odd too that Microsoft didn’t see that through that cloud of absolute greed?

Which Devolver Digitial games can I monetize?

According to Devolver Digital, all of them. That means Shadow Warrior, Hotline Miami and any of the Serious Sam series, as well as Duke Nukem 3D and Dungeon Hearts.

What’s even cooler is they’ve set up a website just to answer the question “Can I post and monetize videos of Devolver games?“. And, if you keep refreshing the page, they’ll answer the question over and over and over again — in progessively ruder ways until you finally get:

I absolutely LOVE it and, with Serious Sam HD having been on my wishlist for a while, it looks like now is a good time to buy it. After all, who wouldn’t want to support an indie developer this cool?

Devolver Digital, I like your style.
