With Saturday evening being the most competitive night of the week when it comes to Korean dramas, and with Good Partner grabbing most of the audience this week, it isn’t surprising that TV Chosun’s new drama DNA Lover premiered last night to average ratings.
According to Nielsen Korea, DNA Lover, Episode 1 was able to earn just 1.13 percent of the nationwide audience when it aired in the 21:10 (KST) time slot.
That rating is less than half the rating its predecessor My Happy Ending earned for its first episode (2.60 percent) when it premiered on December 30th last year.
First episode ratings, however, are often not remotely indicative of how a drama will perform throughout its run.
Especially as, in the case of romantic comedy DNA Lover, the drama is entertaining so far, the cast is great and the plot is fun.
With 15 more episodes of DNA Lover to air then, let’s see how it performs from now on.
DNA Lover stars Jung In Sun, Choi Si Won, Lee Tae Hwan, and Jung Yoo Jin.
It tells the story of genetic researcher So Jin (played by Jung In Sun) who is constantly being dumped by the men she dates. So, in order to prevent further heart-break, she sets off to find a genetically-compatible partner who, she believes, will ensure a happy future together.
But, after meeting obstetrician-gynecologist Yeon U (Choi Si Won) and firefighter Gang Hun (Lee Tae Hwan), things become much more complicated than DNA suggests.
DNA Lover airs on TV Chosun every Saturday and Sunday at 21:10 (KST), with Viki streaming it internationally.
