It’s a good thing I spend a lot of time looking for videos on YouTube, or I just might have missed this one. It’s a recording of the Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus singing their version of Conchita Wurst’s ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ and it’s really quite something.
A more mellow version than the original, and quite a bit more calming, I love the melodic sounds of the men’s voices here, and the way it’s sung just with the piano. It is just a rehearsal version, but I think it’s beautiful.
Plus, let’s face it, this song just never gets old regardless of who is singing it.
What I love too about this, is so many people are now taking up Conchita’s message and adopting ‘Rise Like a Phoenix’ as an anthem to promote love, tolerance and acceptance. And I think that’s fabulous.
