Hip hop artist Fetty Wap and home boy Monty are back at the Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival again this year and, while there, they got together with Billboard’s Christina Garibaldi to talk about taking some time off, and about their upcoming new album Everything Is Different.
Fetty Wap said they took time off just to hang out with their kids, but that now they’re back and excited about performing again.
As for the title of the new album? Fetty Wap said “Because everything is different. Everything from when we first started to just a few months ago…everything keeps progressing for me. I have a new energy about everything. I’ve just been in the zone lately”.
Wap says while the music on the new album is still ‘party music’, “I guess it’s just more mature now. Like on this album, I tried to steer myself away from ‘Trap Queen‘ (his first big hit), because I didn’t want people to put me in the category of just ‘Trap Queen‘. Because I feel like I already proved myself, and I’m more of an artist than just ‘Trap Queen‘. I’ve had several hits since then. Several Billboard chart songs.”
He went on to say, when he focused on what kind of music he wanted on the new album, “I felt like it was time for me to figure out what kind of artist I wanted to be, and I think I found that”.
Monty agreed, saying “I think now he’s taking it to the next level. He’s definitely been on fire on the road, in every performance.”
