First Vampire Dormitory visual shows Mito’s green heart – yep, Ruka and Mito are getting to know each other

First Vampire Dormitory visual features cross-dressing Mito with Ruka wondering why her blood tastes so gross

For fans of Ema Tōyama’s Vampire Dormitory manga series, today’s announcement of an anime adaptation couldn’t have come soon enough.

Who doesn’t want to see Ruka and Mito’s relationship animated and slowly developing, while he avoids real girls in favor of the anime and manga variety, and as Mito does everything she can to stop him from finding out she is one.

Along with the announcement, we also got the first Vampire Dormitory visual (see below).

Although, if you have read the popular manga series, you will know Mito’s heart being green means the new visual is from very early on in the pair’s relationship and Ruka is still wondering why her blood tastes so gross.

What do we know about the Vampire Dormitory anime so far?

With the official Vampire Dormitory anime website only kicking off today, what we know is currently limited.

It has been announced that the Vampire Dormitory anime series is being animated by Studio Blanc (The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World), and Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Happy Sugar Life) is directing the series.

Touko Machida (Smile Down the Runway) is in charge of scripts, and Naomi Tsuruta is in charge of character designs.

Meanwhile, original mangaka Ema Tōyama has released a congratulatory Vampire Dormitory visual (see below), alongside a mssage that says:

Vampire Dormitory has been made into an anime! Thanks to all the readers who supported us. Animation has been my dream since I was a child, so I’m really happy that my dream has come true!

What we know about Ema Tōyama’s Vampire Dormitory manga series

Vampire Dormitory first began publishing in 2018 in the Kodansha owned magazine Nakayoshi.

In the last five years, the vampire-themed manga series has been compiled into 11 Japanese volumes with its 12th due out next month.

The Vampire Dormitory manga series has also received an English translation, with Kodansha USA publishing each volume.

There are 10 volumes now out in English, so we are only a couple of volumes behind the Japanese manga and, looking at the publishing schedule for the first 10 volumes, an 11th one is likely to be published in the next few months.

Kodansha explains the plot of Volume 1 like this:

For Mito, being the thrall of a vampire is the least of her worries. Mito’s lived life on the streets since she graduated from middle school, dressing as a boy to stay safe. She’s managed to eke out a grungy, friendless existence, but when a handsome vampire, Ruka, rescues her from sure-death, he makes her an offer that sounds too good to be true: become his subservient thrall from which he can feed whenever he wants, and she can live with him—in the boys’ dorm.

Because her very existence depends on her secret not being found out, every day is a new danger—to say nothing of what living with a vampire could mean!

Ruka, not knowing Mito’s a girl, dotes on her night and day in an attempt to ripen her “disgusting male blood,” but the closer he gets to her, the more likely her secret could get out…and the closer she gets to having her new, wonderful life come crashing down around her..

As mentioned earlier, the official Vampire Dormitory website is up now, alongside its X account.

We will keep you posted with updated news here on Leo Sigh as soon as it comes out.
