‘Friends’ Thanksgiving episodes in theaters a money grab?
I was incredibly excited earlier today when I scanned the headlines and saw ‘Friends Thanksgiving episodes in theaters this November‘.
Because, come on, isn’t Friends THE show you have been desperate to see a reunion of? Well, for one awesome moment I thought that’s what we were going to get.
Then reality set in.
Because, apparently, the ‘Friends Thanksgiving episodes’ that will probably show up at your local theater on November 24th and 25th are nothing more than the same eight Thanksgiving shows every Friends fan has seen at least 30 times.
The only difference?
They are on the big screen, and are remastered in 4K.
I mean, sure, it would be nice to see Friends in high definition, but is it just me that thinks this is nothing more than a money grab?
A money grab Fathom Events, and the other folks that have decided this is a good idea, are pulling off.
Personally, I already own every episode of the hit comedy show on DVD, and so can watch those Friends Thanksgiving episodes myself any time I want.
That’s why I can’t imagine shelling out the better part of $30 a ticket (ticket, drinks, snack), just to see Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler and Phoebe 30 feet tall.
Call me tight (or smart with my money) if you like.
As for the Friends Thanksgiving episodes, here is part of what the press release says, so you know what you’re going to get:
“Monica puts a turkey on her head, Rachel makes a curious trifle cake, Ross reveals an old secret, Chandler declares his love for Monica, Joey tries to devour an entire turkey, and Phoebe exposes something curious about Chandler’s canine allergy”.
Um…thanks. But, no. You might feel otherwise.
