Subset Games, the developer of the highly popular roguelike spaceship simulator FTL has just released a trailer video showing off their new project. A turn-based strategy game called IntoThe Breach, and one they have been working on since 2014.
The game takes place in a time when the human race is struggling to survive as enormous insect-like creatures begin to become alive beneath the surface of the world, and then burrow their way up to start killing everyone. The object of the game is to build the best machines to defend your cities and to stop them.
Into The Breach is a single-player strategy game with randomly generated maps, and some extremely pretty graphics. As Subset Games explains:
Defend the Cities: Civilian buildings power your mechs. Defend them from the Vek and watch your fire!
Perfect Your Strategy: All enemy attacks are telegraphed in minimalistic, turn-based combat. Analyze your opponent’s attack and come up with the perfect counter every turn.
Build the Ultimate Mech: Find powerful new weapons and unique pilots as you battle the Vek infestation across Corporate-Nation islands.
Another Chance: Failure is not an option. When you are defeated, send help back through time to save another timeline!
Subset Games themselves are just two developers — Justin Ma (artist) and Matthew Davis (programmer). They collaborate with other developers as needs come up. Not that that has stopped them becoming an extremely successful indie developer, even with just the one Kickstarter-funded game currently released.
Into The Breach will be released on Windows, Mac, and Linux, although not all at the same time. Keep posted for more details as they emerge, and watch the trailer video for the game below. You can also pick up the developer’s first game FTL on GOG — if I was you, I’d go with the Advanced Edition.
