There was an awful lot of hoopla in Venice, Italy this weekend when actor George Clooney married his fiancee, Lebanese born British lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
Festivities started off with the couple getting married in a hush-hush private ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort on Saturday evening. The wedding, of course, was attended by many of Hollywood’s A-list.
A civil ceremony presided over by the Mayor of Venice, Walter Veltroni, and necessary in order to make the marriage legal under Italian law, occurred today at a historic palazzo on the Grand Canal.
The couple arrived for the civil ceremony in a speed boat taxi amid crowds of onlookers and well-wishers just before 1pm. The ceremony itself took less than 15 minutes before George and Amal were back on the boat, officially now husband and wife, and speeding away surrounded by boats carrying paparazzi and local police.
