Good Boy EP2 ratings rise nationwide as international viewers very positive about K-drama so far
The new JTBC crime-themed drama Good Boy, Episode 2 aired last night to an increase in its ratings compared to the K-drama’s already solid ratings of the night before.
Nielsen Korea is reporting Good Boy, Episode 2 grabbed 5.25 percent of the nationwide audience, which is a very nice increase from Episode 1’s viewership of 4.81 percent.
Interestingly, however, I noticed that that ratings increase did not carry over to viewers in Seoul as, in that region, Good Boy, Episode 2 saw a slightly lower audience share than its previous episode — 5.58 percent versus Saturday evening’s slightly higher 5.74 percent.
With a total of 16 episodes to air, though, any ratings at the beginning of a K-drama’s run are preliminary at best. So let’s see where it goes from here, eh?
Especially as, even with slightly lower ratings in Seoul, Good Boy, Episode 2 was still the #1 show in its time slot.
International viewers reactions to Good Boy after Episode 2
The Korean drama is currently earning a decent rating on Asian drama-focused website MDL where users of that site are giving it an 8.1 out of 10, with users of IMDB also awarding it the same solid rating.
While there are always a few disgruntled people, overall, I would say the comments from viewers are predominantly positive, with international viewers commenting how much they love the drama so far:
Dang, what bad a$$e$! Love it so far especially the end of episode 1. The physical humor by these athletes is great and their performances are full of energy, you just have to root for them all. This one looks very promising.
and
Episode 1 was so strong. it was 90 minutes long but I barely feel time time passing. Ep 2 is calmer but still engaging.
Park Bogum really shows his range here. He did all the emotions to perfection. I’m even more curious about Dongju’s background story than the romance. Hopefully next episode do better all around.
with the only critical comments mainly being about the romance that has been introduced:
I liked the first two episodes, and I’ll like it more if they just take the romance out.
especially as Yun Dong Ju (played by Park Bo Gum) is looking a bit pathetic over his refusal to properly move on from being dumped by Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun).
Although, I have a feeling things may change in that direction, don’t you?
Good Boy, by the way, also has an excellent main cast — Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok — and, so far at least, is written well with a fun mix of comedy and action that has kept both episodes highly entertaining.
The Korean drama airs every Saturday and Sunday through July 20th on JTBC in South Korea, and on Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+, depending on where you live.
I recommend it.
