I am probably one of the few people who thought the 2017 anime series Grimoire of Zero was utter perfection.
But I fell in love with that series from the first episode. Right from the moment Mercenary removes his hood and begins to fight with the town’s thugs.
When Zero herself showed up and began giving Mercenary a hard time, it was a whole other level of adoration.
What sealed the deal for me though, as far as Grimoire of Zero being placed on my list of Best Anime Series, was its ending theme.
Sung by Japanese indie pop singer Chima, and called ‘Hajimari no Shirushi’ (はじまりのしるし), the Grimoire of Zero ending theme song is one of the most beautiful songs to ever grace an anime series.
After all, her voice is heart-wrenching and the melody of that song is so damned lovely.
Grimoire of Zero
As for Grimoire of Zero, the anime is based on the award-winning light novel series by Kakeru Kobashiri.
It was directed by Tetsuo Hirakawa with animation by White Fox, and stars Yumiri Hanamori (Laid-Back Camp, Happy Sugar Life) as Zero, and Tsuyoshi Koyama (Hanayamata, Gangsta) as the Mercenary.
Listen to the gorgeous Grimoire of Zero ending theme song ‘Hajimari no Shirushi’ sung by Chima in full in the video below.
It is clearly one of the best anime songs of the last few years.
If you love this song and Chima’s voice in it as much as I do, the Japanese singer also has three albums currently available on Spotify that are just as beautiful.
You will find one of her gorgeous album releases in the player below, and more about Chima on her official website.
