I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class trailer and visual – anime looks cute!

The official X account for the upcoming rom-com anime I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class (クラスで2番目に可愛い女の子と友だちになった) has just released a trailer and cute new visual.

The anime’s cast and main staff were also confirmed.

But, don’t get too excited just yet as, unfortunately, and even though the anime adaptation was announced way back in September, 2023, it will apparently be some time in 2026 before we get to watch it. Meh.

The trailer is, sadly, also just a static trailer of the new visual, but featuring the anime’s main voice actors at school talking about the videos they watched the night before.

The voice cast is also announced in the YouTube video’s notes.

I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl... voice cast announced

Voice cast members featured in the trailer are — Haruki Ishiya (Shuuichi Tsukamoto in Sound! Euphonium) who will voice Maki Maehara, protagonist and friend of ‘the 2nd prettiest girl’, and Manaka Iwami (Akane in Oshi no Ko) who is playing 2nd prettiest girl (and she’s so cute!) Umi Asanagi.

Also named are Sayumi Suzushiro (Tama in No Longer Allowed in Another World) who plays Yuu Amami, ‘the cutest girl in the class’, and Ikami Hasegawa (Ikuyo Kita in Bocchi the Rock!) who is voicing Nina Nitta.

Main staff for I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl anime

The staff for the anime also feature several people who have created some of the most recent best cute-girl-centered anime series, so you can expect this one to be on similar lines.

Hideki Tachibana (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) is directing, alongside Keiichirou Oochi (The Quintessential Quintuplets) who is in charge of scripts and series composition, and with Shouko Takimoto (The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio) designing the characters as well as Chief Animation Director.

Studio Connect (The Unwanted Undead Adventurer) is animating.

The anime adaptation is from an award-winning light novel series written by Takata and illustrated by Tom Osabe and Azuri Hyūga (2nd volume onwards).

It has sold over 1 million copies so far.

Yen Press is just beginning to publish the English translation of the light novels’ manga adaptation, with the first volume coming out in June.

Its plot, by the way, follows two high school students who suddenly become friends:

“Then let’s be secret friends—”

Meet Maki Maehara, the class loner, and his first-ever friend— Uma Asanagi.

She is always at the center of the crowd, whispered among the boys as “the second cutest girl in class.” You’d think someone like her lives in a completely different world from a loner like me—but surprise, she’s a die-hard B-movie fan?!

What started as an unlikely encounter led to an unexpected friendship, and now, every Friday after school, Asanagi secretly comes over to my place.

Between movies, games, and shared tastes in manga, every moment with her is pure fun.

A down-to-earth “friendship” love comedy begins between a background guy and the class’s second heroine!!

Keep an eye out for more updates for the  I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl anime as we get closer to the anime’s premiere.

Meanwhile, enjoy the voice acting in the new trailer, it’s exceptionally cute.
