
According to Deadline, actress and singer Jennifer Lopez has signed on to star in the upcoming Netflix action film The Mother.
The film is likely to be directed by New Zealand film director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, North Country, Mulan), and will have Lopez playing a female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up for adoption years before.
Lopez will also be producing the film.
The original screenplay for The Mother has been written by Misha Green (Underground, Lovecraft Country).
As for Jennifer Lopez, she is currently one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and has been for many years.
The Bronx native was last seen in the 2019 crime drama Hustlers in a role that won her several Best Actress/Supporting Actress awards in the U.S.
The actress and singer also performed live at the Presidential Inauguration of now President Joe Biden last month. (continue reading below…)

Lopez is next set to star in the film Marry Me with Owen Wilson, as well as to executive produce and star in The Godmother as real-life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.
The upcoming films Shotgun Wedding and Cipher are also named as including starring roles for Lopez.
No word yet on when The Mother will be in production or when it is expected to release on Netflix. We will keep you posted as more information on the film becomes available.
