Joan Lunden Shaves Head After Breast Cancer Diagnosis and Looks Beautiful: You Go, Girl

I admire strong women and TV anchor Joan Lunden has always been one of the ones I like – after all, she’s a ‘get up and get on with it’ kind of girl. So, I wasn’t surprised to see her on the cover of People magazine this week with…..her head shaved. That’s because Joan Lunden has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and is about to go through chemotherapy treatment. In an interview with her inside the magazine, she had this to say about it:

“I could decide to do nothing, but that’s certainly not my personality. I was handed an opportunity to learn everything that I can about this and try to help others. (Cancer survivor) Robin Roberts told me waiting for your hair to fall out is excruciating. So I didn’t want to wait.”

So, like you would expect a strong women to do, Joan Lunden shaved her head.

Of course, being only human, she still had some ‘issues’ about her decision, and about appearing in public without a wig:

“I’m almost reluctant to say it because it sounds superficial. But when you lose your hair, it just affects the way that you look at yourself in the mirror. You feel less feminine, pretty or desirable, and it’s not an easy thing to go through.”

And that’s where Joan and I have to part ways, when it comes to how she looks with a bald head as, frankly, I think she looks beautiful. As well as glowing, happy and, yep, brave. If I was her, I’d dump the wigs and keep looking that way.

You can read more about Joan Lunden and her decision to shave her head, as well as what she thinks about her cancer diagnosis, in the latest edition of People magazine. But…..beautiful? Yeah.
