To be honest, I often base whether I like a celebrity or not on their personal life and political and social opinions as much as I do their talent. I also like strong women. That’s just the way I am. And in that vein, I have to say, Julianne Moore may just about be the coolest actress in Hollywood. Why do I say that? Read on.
I’m as left-wing as they come. Liberal to the point of, well, extremely liberal. So I do always read about the political and social opinions of celebrities, as it interests me. If I discover they are a right-wing extremist who is anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, and extremely religious to the point of proselytizing, I’m much less likely to have that much time for them, or be interested in writing about them.
So, when I read about Julianne Moore recently; her political and social views, her opinions on religion, the charity work she does, and her views on celebrity, I have to say I came out of it thinking Julianne Moore is the coolest actress in Hollywood.
Moore is politically liberal, and was a big supporter of President Obama in both the presidential elections. She’s not only pro-choice, but she believes in a woman’s right to have an abortion to such an extent she also has a seat on the Planned Parenthood board. Moore campaigns for gay rights, is an ambassador for Save the Children and, as far as religion goes, Julianne Moore is an atheist.
Throw in that she thinks celebrity is a little bit odd, and tries to live as normal a life as it’s possible to live when you are known by half the planet, she is a successful children’s author, and she is completely against using any form of plastic surgery or appearance enhancement as she believes people should grow old gracefully and, for me, Julianne Moore is amazing.
And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that she is a phenomenally good actress. Her performances in ‘Short Cuts’, ‘Boogie Nights’, Magnolia’, and ‘The End of the Affair’ are astounding, and her ability to do blockbuster movies like ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park‘ and then move to something serious like ‘A Map of the World‘ or ‘The Forgotten‘ are something you don’t see often.
Yes, I think Julianne Moore is the coolest actress in Hollywood. How about you?
