Keira Knightley Salary Only $50,000 a Year: Won’t Be Alienated

I’m not a fan of celebrities who make millions of dollars a year and then spend said millions of dollars a year on …….ostentatious crap they don’t need.

Seriously, when you’re making ridiculous amounts of money anyway and then spending it on private jet trips to eat ice cream in another state, houses you live in three days a year during Christmas vacation, or million dollar birthday parties for your 2-year-old child, you’re not only far removed from reality, you’re someone I’m never going to support. (There are people dying of starvation or living on the street – where are your priorities?)

That’s why, when I read about British actress Keira Knightley and her $50,000 a year salary, I’m just in love with her a little bit more.

Sure, while Keira obviously spends more than $50,000 a year (flying to New York for photo shoots and TV appearances doesn’t come cheap), most of that is covered in typical ‘business expenses’ similar to the ones you and I spend if we run businesses (and yes, being Keira Knightley is a business).

But, when someone this famous and getting paid the enormous fees for movies that Keira Knightley is paid chooses to spend only $50,000 a year on living expenses, you know her priorities are in the right place.

According to a new interview in the July issue of Glamour magazine, Keira says she chooses to live on $50,000 a year because:

I think living an [expensive] lifestyle means you can’t hang out with people who don’t live that lifestyle. It alienates you. Some of my best, most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places.

And, yes, she does admit she sometimes goes over that if there’s something she really wants to buy (come on, the woman is worth around $50 million, and she’s not even 30 yet!) but, her head is firmly plonked on her shoulders enough that she doesn’t live that way all the time.

Yep, Keira. I love her.
