O melodie pentru Europa, the Moldovan national selection for Eurovision 2016, finished up a little while ago and, after 16 acts had performed, the winner was Lidia Isac with her song ‘Falling Stars’. Isac will now be going to Stockholm as Moldova’s ESC representative in May.
And, while Lidia Isac’s ‘Falling Stars‘, if a bit of a cliche song, still showed off nicely on video released several weeks before O melodie pentru Europa, and Isac’s voice is quite lovely, during tonight’s Moldovan national selection she gave a much weaker performance of the song. The staging was pretty poor as well.
That means, while I think both the song and Isac have potential, she is really going to have to step up her game if Moldova has any chance of making it through the semi-finals and on into the Eurovision final.
Watch Lidia Isac’s performance of ‘Falling Stars‘ at the Moldovan national selection tonight in the video below to see what I mean. She beat second place Cristina Pintilie by just two points in combined jury and public voting.
