British-Gibraltarian singer songwriter Albert Hammond’s big hit song ‘It Never Rains in California‘ was played on the soundtrack of the HBO Max comedy drama series Hacks this week — Hacks, Season 2, Episode 7, “On the Market“.
The song was heard during the episode’s opening scenes.
Albert Hammond’s ‘It Never Rains in California‘ was released in October, 1972 on the Mums record label and, while the song initially sounds like an upbeat, feel-happy track, it actually is not.
Instead, the lyrics tell the story of a singer who has tried to make it big in the entertainment industry, but has failed miserably.
Already suffering due to his failures, he still wants to make sure the people in his life do not learn about the bad direction his life has taken.
Albert Hammond’s ‘It Never Rains in California‘ was the biggest hit of the singer songwriter’s career.
It shot to #1 in Japan, as well as to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It then charted high in seven other countries although, interestingly, it didn’t chart at all in the United Kingdom, the country of Hammond’s birth.
Listen to Albert Hammond’s ‘It Never Rains in California‘ as heard on Hacks on his album of the same name, and in the video.
