Listen to Sparklehorse’s It’s a Wonderful Life from Big Little Lies, Season 2, Episode 5

American indie rock band Sparklehorse’s It’s a Wonderful Life was featured on this week’s episode of Big Little Lies, the David E. Kelley-penned HBO series  — Big Little Lies, Season 2, Episode 5, “Kill Me Now“.

The melancholy song was played as Jane and Corey kiss, and then Jane begins to cry.

Sparklehorse’s It’s a Wonderful Life is from Sparklehorse’s third studio album of the same name. Released in 2001, it was the band’s most successful album.

As for the song, it is a beautiful song with an old-fashioned feel to it, and a mixture of gorgeous electronic textures, and lead singer Mark Linkous’s voice softly singing “It’s a wonderful life” over and over.

The track is also an incredibly sad song, as well, as you cannot help but think about Linkous’s suicide by gunshot wound at the age of just 47, which happened not long after he broke up with his wife of 19 years.

And then wonder, why could he not see that life could be incredibly wonderful. If you only gave it a chance.
