That oldie but goodie, Tavares’ ‘Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel‘ was one of the many superb songs played on the soundtrack of A Friend of the Family last night — A Friend of the Family, Season 1, Episode 6, “Son of Perdition“.
The R&B/soul song was released by the five piece funk, soul and R&B band back in 1976 as the first song from the group’s fourth album Sky High!
It charted in the United States at #3 on the Hot Soul Singles chart, as well as at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It also made it high onto charts in 10 other countries, making it one of the band’s first international hits.
The song did particularly well in the Netherlands, where it ended up at #1 on two different charts, and in the UK where it hit #4 on the UK Singles chart.
Sure, almost 50 years after its release, ‘Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel’ is as cheesy as hell.
But back in 1976 when, as a teenager, I used to spend half my life on the disco dance floor, it was one of the dance tracks everyone flooded onto the floor to disco to.
Listen to Tavares’ ‘Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel‘ as played on yesterday’s A Friend of the Family on the band’s Sky High! album.
You can also hear the song in the video of a live performance the group gave on TV in the Netherlands.
Watch the A Friend of the Family mini-series on Peacock.
