American R&B soul group The Delfonics’ ‘Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love)‘ was the song playing over the Mrs. Davis, Season 1, Episode 1 end credits this week.
The song starts as Simone is at the elementary school and meets a woman who she quickly realizes is channeling the AI.
After a short conversation, Simone is told by the AI she can have any wish she likes, so she tells the AI “Then my wish is for you to kill yourself”.
The AI says she will, but Simone first has to agree to do something for her. Something that sounds almost impossible to achieve. Of course, Simone decides she will do it, and shakes the AI’s hand in acceptance of the challenge.
The episode then ends, and the song continues playing over the end credits.
The Delfonics’ ‘Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love)‘ came out in late 1968, and went on to hit the Top 50 on three charts in the United States, including at #14 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
It was one of several hits the popular African American group had in the 60s and early 70s.
The use of ‘Ready or Not Here I Come‘ is just one of many times the popular group’s songs have been used on TV series over the last couple of decades.
With how catchy the track is, it isn’t likely won’t be its last.
Listen to The Delfonics’ ‘Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love)‘ as heard on the premiere of Mrs. Davis in the video, and on the group’s The Sound of Sexy Soul album.
You can watch Mrs. Davis via Peacock TV.
