Back last year, I was ambivalent about the first episode of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines. Until, three episodes in, and the superbly-written, brilliantly-charactered anime quickly became an obsession.
So, when the comedy romance anime ended in September, 2024, I felt like a hole in my heart was inevitable.
Until just now, that is, when that hole has been avoided with the announcement of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines, Season 2.
And no, I am not exaggerating as, three re-watches of the entire first season later, and a fourth on its way soon, and a second season with those wonderful characters has been my anime wish for 2025.
A wish that has now been granted.
Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines gets a second season
The announcement of Season 2 was made minutes ago via the anime’s official X account, along with a cute GIF of best girl Anna Yanami with chopsticks in her mouth, and surrounded by some of the food the gluttonous high school student adores.

Along with the Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines, Season 2 announcement, we also got a short video reminding us why the hit anime was so darned popular when it premiered, and why so many of us couldn’t wait for its second season. (Watch below).
What we know about Season 2?
Honestly, not much right now.
In fact, all that has been released is that the anime’s second season is now in production, with a short message via the Aniplex YouTube channel saying:
Please look forward to further news.
And I can guarantee millions of us will definitely be doing that.

The rom-com anime was directed by Shoutarou Kitamura (Episode Director or Shaman King), with Masahiro Yokotani (I Have a Crush at Work) in charge of series composition, and Tetsuya Kawakami (86) designing those incredibly cute characters.
Animation was beautifully done by A-1 Pictures (Mashle and Sword Art Online).
The anime’s first season is currently rated a solid 8.13 out of 10 on My Anime List although, frankly, that rating should be much higher.
Its plot, according to the first volume of the Japanese light novel series, goes like this:
Me, the Class Background—Kazuhiko Nukumizu, once witnessed the popular girl Anna Yanami getting dumped by a guy.
‘He said he’d make me his bride… Isn’t that cruel?’
‘How old were you when he said that?’
‘Four or five…’That doesn’t count, right?
This encounter leads to the appearance of girls overflowing with “loser energy”—like Lemon Yakehshio from the track team and Chika Komari from the literature club—
‘Nukumizu-kun, girls can be divided into two types: childhood friends or homewreckers.’
‘I see. That’s a bold classification.’May fortune favor these girls who shine because they lose.
A mysterious youth entangled with the “Losing Heroines”—the Makeins—begins here!”

Obsessed with anime and manga. Desperate for time to stop with only me left moving in the world. Then I’d have the time needed to watch the 543 anime DVDs I own, and read the more than 1,000 manga.
