After a rough year with problems with her shoulder and a subsequent operation, Maria Sharapova came back today in style to win her match in the Aegon Classic quarter finals in the UK. Sharapova beat Sesil Karatantcheva 6-2, 6-4 to send her through to the semi finals on Saturday.
She’ll either play 19 year old American, Alison Riske, or Belgian, Yanina Wickmayer in the match.
Wickmayer is ranked number 16 just ahead of Sharapova, who is currently ranked number 17.
In comments after the match, Sharapova mentioned she expected things to get even more difficult from here on out, as the players she will be matched up against will be harder to beat.
Let’s see how it goes.
