If you thought this year’s release of Microsoft Flight Simulator gave you a game that was one of the best you have played in a long time, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Apparently.
That’s because Microsoft has just announced there will be a Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year edition (GOTY) coming out just in time for Christmas.
The upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY will feature a massive amount of content. Both content that has already been released, and a slew that hasn’t.
According to the developer, the Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY edition will include the base game plus all the updates that have been released in 2021.
But, as that would just give you what you probably already have, it’s the extra stuff that’s even cooler.
That includes FIVE new aircraft — Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, VoloCity, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, CubCrafters NX Cub, and Aviat Pitts Special S1S — EIGHT new airports — Leipzig/Halle Airport, Germany’s Allgäu Airport Memmingen, and Kassel Airport; Switzerland’s Lugano Airport, Zurich Airport, and Luzern-Beromunster Airport; and the Patrick Space Force Base and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in the U.S.
New Discovery Flight missions will be included in the Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY edition. Those will take place in six locations — Mecca, Helsinki, Freiburg im Breisgau, Mount Cook and Monument Valley, Singapore.
The GOTY edition will also add new information about 545 previously missing airports in the U.S., making your flights even more authentic.
There will also be 14 new tutorials, so you understand everything that’s possible in the game, and an updated weather system.
Remember too, Microsoft Flight Simulator collaborates with Bing maps.
In the GOTY edition, that means there will be EIGHT new photogrammetry cities: Helsinki (Finland), Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, and Nottingham (UK) and Utrecht (Netherlands)
And finally, if you already own the game and are wishing you had held off so you could get the GOTY edition, no worries at all.

That’s because Microsoft has announced everyone that already owns the PC and Xbox Series X|S version of the base game can update to the GOTY edition — for free.
It’s apparently a ‘Thank you’ from Microsoft for the amazing reception they have received from fans around the world for this incredible game.
Yep, the Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY edition will be amazing and, as it releases on November 18th, there isn’t long to wait.
Until then, watch the just released Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY trailer and try not to drool.
