I have to admit I have not been following the national selections for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 as closely as I probably should have been. After all, for the first time in two years, Conchita Wurst isn’t involved and, frankly, many of the songs that have been chosen so far are, to put it bluntly, dire. So, I was happily surprised to hear the Cyprus song for Eurovision 2016 today — a song from rock band Minus One called ‘Alter Ego‘ and it’s really very good.
It’s the first heavy rock song Cyprus has entered in the competition, and was written by Minus One and Swedish Eurovision Song Contest songwriter Thomas G:Son. The video for ‘Alter Ego‘, which is cool, was directed by Emilios Avraam.
As for Minus One, they tried to represent Cyprus last year at Eurovision 2015, but came in third place in the country’s national selection.
Cyprus will be in the first semi final of Eurovision 2016, which will take place in Stockholm on May 10th and, frankly, with this song and the powerful performance it’s looking like they’ll definitely be giving, I think they have a great chance of getting through quite easily to the final.
