Not that I didn’t expect it, as he is superb playing ‘Hedwig’ in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’. But, I was thrilled to see Neil Patrick Harris win Leading Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards 2014 last night, as he really does deserve it. In fact, he seemed more surprised than the rest of us, but absolutely thrilled!
Earlier in the evening, Neil Patrick Harris had also performed Hedwig and the Angry Inch’s ‘Sugar Daddy’ live and brought the house down (although Sting didn’t appear too happy when he sat on his lap!)
In his acceptance speech, Neil Patrick Harris talked about how wonderful and ‘exhausting’ it was playing Hedwig every night. He said how terrified he had been in taking the role but that it had been an ‘absolute joy’ and was ‘so fun to perform’.
He then went on to thank his fiance, his 3 1/2 year-old kids (and apologize for not being able to read them bedtime stories at night), his mother and father, his brother and even teachers that inspired him when he was just a kid in high school.
A lovely lovely acceptance speech from a lovely lovely man, and one which you can see in its entirety below.
