New Oshi no Ko key visual released to celebrate 1 year anniversary of anime premiere

Oshi no Ko celebrates 1 year anniversary with atmospheric key visual

In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the release of the hit anime series Oshi no Ko, KADOKAWA has released an official celebratory key visual especially for the anime’s international fans.

The deeply atmospheric Oshi no Ko 1 year anniversary celebratory key visual features Ai, Ruby and Aquamarine.

The visual also comes with a reminder from KADOKAWA that, if you are still missing the strangeness that is Oshi no Ko, there are six mini-documentaries currently available on YouTube from animation studio Doga Kobo that show the work that went on behind-the-scenes — production, voice recording, dubbing and soundtrack recording — to create this extraordinary show.

You can start with the first one on “Pre-production” here on YouTube.

What is Oshi no Ko about?

As for Oshi no Ko (aka My Favorite Idol), if you are one of the few anime fans who haven’t watched the series, KADOKAWA explains the plot like this:

When a pregnant young starlet appears in Gorou Amemiya’s countryside medical clinic, the doctor takes it upon himself to safely (and secretly) deliver Ai Hoshino’s child so she can make a scandal-free return to the stage.

But no good deed goes unpunished, and on the eve of her delivery, he finds himself slain at the hands of Ai’s deluded stalker — and subsequently reborn as Ai’s child, Aquamarine Hoshino!

The glitz and glamor of showbiz hide the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry, threatening to dull the shine of his favorite star. Can he help his new mother rise to the top of the charts? And what will he do when an unthinkable disaster strikes?

Keep in mind though, the first episode of the anime is just about feature-length, and is a completely different tone than the rest of the anime that comes after it.

You also may want to watch it sooner rather than later, as Oshi no Ko, Season 2 is due out this summer.

The Oshi no Ko cast and crew

Oshi no Ko is directed by Daisuke Hiramaki (Selection Project), with series composition from Jin Tanaka (Laid-Back Camp), and character designs by Kanna Hirayama (Rent-a-Girlfriend).

It stars Rie Takahashi as Ai, Takeo Otsuka voices Aqua, Yurie Igoma as Ruby, Megumi Han plays Kana Arima, and Manaka Iwami is Akane Kurokawa.

The first season of the anime is streaming via HIDIVE.
