Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum Movie Collection Blu-ray on pre-order now – a nice addition to a completist collection

The Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum Movie Collection Blu-ray completes a Mawaru Penguindrum collection

Just in case you missed the announcement of this, the Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum Movie Collection Blu-ray will be out in a couple of weeks via Sentai Filmworks.

The Blu-ray release includes both films. which while they are technically a re-release of part of the original 24-episode Mawaru Penguindrum anime series, also feature new scenes and characters.

And just to be honest, the original releases of the Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum in the movie theater in April and July, 2022 were not that well-received by every fan of the anime series.

After all, how do you condense down a 24-episode anime series with a running time of around 720 minutes into two movies that total 270 minutes, and still keep the coherence of the original story?

According to some fans who watched both films, you don’t.

That being said, if you are a huge Mawaru Penguindrum fan, and hundreds of thousands of people are, it would still be cool to have the Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum Movie Collection Blu-ray in your collection..

Especially if you are a completionist. And I know that feeling, eh?

The Re:Cycle of the Penguindrum Movie Collection Blu-ray features:

The Blu-ray collection features the original theatrical version of the two movies — Part 1 —  Your Train Is the Survival Tactic, and Part 2 — I Love You.

It also includes a clean opening animation, a clean closing animation and three Japanese promos.

Both films are also in the original Japanese with English subtitles, and an English dub, and will be released via Sentai Filmworks on July 4th.

You can place your pre-order via Sentai now.

Meanwhile, Sentai has this to say about the films’ plot:

What would you do to save someone you love? All brothers Shoma and Kanba know is that, after collapsing in an aquarium and apparently dying, their terminally ill sister Himari was somehow revived by a Penguin hat that she had wished for. Now they’re on an impossible mission, because the price of keeping Himari alive is to find a mysterious object called the Penguindrum, and they’ll do anything to save their sister. Anything.

As they travel separate paths in their search, they’ll have to unravel complex riddles, make alliances with strangers they know they shouldn’t trust, and question the very fabrics of time and destiny. In two spectacular feature films combining elements from the acclaimed TV series plus dazzling new scenes and characters, the Penguinture begins again.

It very well might be, as there is no disputing that everything about the Mawaru Penguindrum anime and its concept is achingly beautiful.
