The first cour of the superb fantasy action adventure Sengoku Youko anime series — The Reformation Siblings ArcĀ — ended today and, soon afterwards, a new key visual to promote its upcoming second cour was released via the anime’s official X account.
The second cour is titled ‘Senma Konton-hen‘ orĀ The Thousand Demons Chaos Arc, and is one of three planned cours for the Sengoku Youko series.
It will premiere in July, 2024.
The new Sengoku Youko second cour key visual features demon hunter Senya standing in a swirling river of blood, while some of the 1,000 demons inside his Dangaishu-enhanced body stand before him.
The Sengoku Youko anime series is being directed by Kagetsu Aizawa (Episode Director Laid-BackĀ Camp), with Jukki Hanada (The Dangers in My Heart) in charge of scripts and series composition, and character design by Shinpei Kobayashi (Castle Town Dandelion), who is also the chief animation director.
Anime production is from White Fox (Re: Zero and Goblin Slayer).
The Sengoku Youko manga series
The anime is based on a manga written and illustrated byĀ Satoshi Mizukami (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer).
It has 17 volumes out in Japanese, with Tokyopop publishing it in English and with 6 volumes out so far.
Tokyopop explains the plot of the series in its first volume synopsis like this:
The world is divided into two factions: humans and monsters called katawara. Despite being a katawara, Tama loves humans and vows to protect them from evil, even if it means fighting her own kind. Her stepbrother Jinka, however, hates humans, despite mostly being one.
The siblings are joined by a cowardly swordsman named Shinsuke, who wants to learn how to become strong.Ā
The people they meet, places they see, and creatures they battle will be legendary!Ā
Ratings for the first cour of Sengoko Youko
The first cour of the Sengoko Youko anime series is being rated a low 6.91 out of 10 at My Anime List but, as the written reviews for it are all positive, that rating seems to suggest the anime has been targeted by people who have been review bombing it, as the anime itself is superb.
The same thing apparently happened at Crunchyroll when it was first released on the platform, but the action adventure anime has since climbed to a 4.4 out of 5 rating, which is more in keeping of where it should be.
Speaking of Crunchyroll, all 13 episodes of the first cour of Sengoku Youko are now streaming there.
The second cour will probably also stream on the same platform.
Mark your calendars for July for when the second part of the anime premieres and, until then, enjoy that powerful new Sengoku Youko second cour key visual.
