Shirobako film release date announced for Japan, trailer and key visual released — check them out

Shirobako film release date announced

One of my favorite anime series of the last few years, Shirobako, has just gotten big news, and it means the staff of Musashino Animation will soon be back.

Yep, that’s right. The long-awaited Shirobako film now has a Japanese release date.

That date is February 29th, 2020 and that means, if you are in Japan at the end of February, you should be able to see the Shirobako film on one of a few hundred screens around the country.

According to animation studio P.A. Works, the events of the upcoming film take place a few years after the last episodes of the anime series that last aired in March, 2015.

All cast members are returning for the film, along with a new addition to the cast — voice actress Ayane Sakura (Ochaco Uraraka in My Hero Academia) — who will play new character Kaede Miyai.

Of course, along with the announcement of the Shirobako film release date, there is also a short trailer and a key visual. Check them out above and below, then mark your calendars if you’re in Japan.

Advanced tickets go on sale on October 26th.

For the rest of us, hopefully we’ll get the film not long after its Japanese release.

The 24-episode anime series of Shirobako premiered in October, 2014. Crunchyroll streamed the anime.

The series was also licensed by Sentai Filmworks who released it on home video in North America in 2016.

Until the movie releases, you can keep up to date on more news about the upcoming Shirobako film on its official website.
