Whenever Sofia Coppola announces she’s directing another movie, you can pretty much guarantee it’s going to be unusual. So, now she’s directing ‘The Little Mermaid‘ (an actual movie and not a cartoon), and word has gotten out that gender fluid model Andrej Pejic has been cast in a small role – yep, it’s obvious it’s going to be different. Awesome, I say.

Andrej Pejic’s part in The Little Mermaid isn’t going to be a big one – simply ‘Sister #4’ – but it’s a great opportunity for Andrej and will give her even more exposure than she’s already been getting lately.

I say ‘her’, by the way, as Andrej herself says she’s a person who ‘lives in between genders’ but prefers to be referred to by female pronouns. Gotta respect that.

As for Andrej Pejic herself, she’s 22-years-old, was born in Bosnia but now calls Australia home, and has been seeing great success in international fashion shows – in both the men’s and women’s shows, I might add.

Personally, I think gender fluidity is a fascinating subject. After all, when you think about it, it’s a bit odd that we’re born one sex and immediately have a gender assigned to us, without our consent and without being consulted.

Millions of people around the world feel uncomfortable living as the gender that has been assigned to them as it just doesn’t ‘fit’ how they feel in their soul, which is why gender fluidity makes so much sense to me. Choose the characteristics, behaviors and attributes that YOU like and bugger everyone else. Enough said.

As for Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ and Andrej Pejic’s performance, you’ll have to wait until 2015 until the movie is completed and released.
