One of the Korean dramas I am most looking forward to in the closing months of this year is the JTBC drama The Tale of Lady Ok (aka 옥씨부인전).
An historical drama starring Im Ji Yeon, Choo Young Woo, Yeonwoo and Kim Jae Won, The Tale of Lady Ok tells the story of Ok Tae Young (played by Im Ji Yeon), a serf who breaks free from her abusive owner and creates a new life and identity for herself.
It’s also a K-drama that promises something a little different, plot-wise at least, than the historical dramas we often get coming out of Korea.
So, today, I was interested to see the announcement from The Tale of Lady Ok production company that actress Son Na Eun will also be joining the K-drama’s cast.
Son Na Eun, of course, was the star of the recent JTBC drama Romance in the House (excellent by the way), and has also been a main lead in similarly well-written K-dramas like Agency, Ghost Doctor, and Dinner Mate.
Her addition to The Tale of Lady Ok cast then is intriguing.
Especially as the production company will not disclose the part she will be playing, simply saying “tune in to find out more”.
New The Tale of Lady Ok poster released
Meanwhile, a new poster has been released for the upcoming drama showing Im Ji Yeon’s two completely different identities.
The first, the regal Lady Ok — a somewhat mysterious legal expert who is admired by everyone around her.
The second, (with the poster flipped) the same woman but as a former serf, abused and obviously suffering.
Now all we can do is wait to see what role Son Na Eun will play in the Korean drama, and see how the destiny of Lady Ok plays itself out.
You can start to do that on JTBC in South Korea on November 30th at 10:30 p.m. (KST).
Rumor also has it (not confirmed as yet by the platform itself) that The Tale of Lady Ok will be streaming internationally on Netflix. Fingers crossed.
