Spring of Youth EP 1 premieres to low ratings but earning great ratings internationally

SBS TV in South Korea premiered their latest Wednesday drama last night, and it didn’t air to particularly great ratings.

In fact, with just 1.4 percent of the nationwide audience share, Spring of Youth, Episode 1 was the 38th most-watched show on free-to-watch TV yesterday.

Not a tragedy yet, of course, as any drama can rapidly increase its ratings if its first episode is well-liked and word spreads.

In Spring of Youth‘s case, however, the K-drama only has nine more episodes to grab fans and keep them, so we will see.

Throw in that it only airs once a week, every Wednesday at 22:40 (KST), drama’s that come out so infrequently also tend to be less popular by viewers – worldwide.

Let’s see then how Spring of Youth‘s second episode fares next week.

What is Spring of Youth?

The Korean drama stars Ha Yu Jun, Park Ji Hu, and Lee Seung Hyub, and tells the story of Sa Gye (played by Ha Yoo Joon), the vocalist of a popular K-pop band, who is suddenly forced to begin attending  Hanju University.

Once there, however, he meets Kim Bom (Park Ji Hu), who is also a keyboardist and a vocalist in a band. And soon, of course, a music collaboration is the obvious result.

Spring of Youth also features an excellent supporting veteran cast that includes Jo Han Chul (Mr. Plankton), Kim Jong Tae (The Art of Negotiation), and Cha Chung Hwa (Song of the Bandits).

It is also currently earning a very good rating of 8.2 out of 10 from viewers using My Drama List (MDL) .

Look out for the Korean rom-com drama’s next episode on Wednesday May 14th on SBS in South Korea, and streaming internationally via Viki — where, by the way, it is currently being rated a high 9.4 out of 10 (by just 18 viewers so far).
