Stephen Fry Quitting as QI Presenter After M Series Ends (Video)

Sad news today, as Stephen Fry announces he’s quitting as presenter of the BBC TV show ‘QI‘ after recording 180 episodes.

Fry said about his departure,

“For thirteen years I had one of the best jobs on television. After passing the alphabetical halfway mark, I thought it time to move on, but I will never cease to be grateful to John Lloyd for devising QI and for everyone else for making it such fun.’

He has also said, however, that he will still be remaining as ‘QI‘ presenter through the next series — series M — before he will be handing the reins to new presenter Sandi Toksvig. Toksvig, of course, has been on the show as a guest many times before.

For me, Stephen Fry isQI‘, as he is smart, funny, quick-witted, has a lovely personality and is perfectly suited to the job.

Still, 13 years is a long time to do any job, particularly one that is as high-profile as ‘QI’, and with Fry being recently married to husband, writer Elliott Spencer, and busy with so many other projects, it’s probably not that surprising he feels it’s time to move on.

The M series of ‘QI‘ will begin airing on the BBC this Friday, October 16th.
