The Divorce Insurance #1 on Most Buzzworthy Drama list but will it convert to ratings?

As The Divorce Insurance ratings’ plummet, the K-drama ends up “buzzworthy”

Now, this is slightly odd news coming out of South Korea today.

According to Good Data Corporation’s weekly update of its Most Buzzworthy Drama list, the Korean drama in the #1 spot is tvN’s The Divorce Insurance.

And I say odd as, even though the Lee Dong Wook-led drama premiered on March 31st to decent ratings, every episode released after that has seen a fall in ratings in South Korea, with Episode 4 premiering on April 8th to a shockingly low viewership (1.38 percent nationwide/1.68 percent in Seoul).

But, while most of South Korea is not actually watching the drama, at least not on tvN, it appears they are still talking about it.

After all, the ratings are compiled every week from social media posts, online forums, news articles and even blog posts, and The Divorce Insurance earned the most mentions.

That means The Divorce Insurance is currently at #1 on the Most Buzzworthy Drama list, followed by the just ended Buried Hearts at #2, the also just completed The Art of Negotiation at #3, The Potato Lab at #4, and with the still hit weekend drama For Eagle Brothers rounding out the Top 5.

As for the entire Top 10 Most Buzzworthy Drama list, it looks like this:

  1. The Divorce Insurance
  2. Buried Hearts
  3. The Art of Negotiation
  4. The Potato Lab
  5. For Eagle Brothers
  6. Cinderella Game
  7. Crushology 101
  8. New Recruit 3
  9. Villains Everywhere
  10. My Merry Marriage

Now, personally, I do not understand why The Divorce Insurance does not seem to be taking off in South Korea.

Particularly as it is nicely-written, extremely well acted (all four main actors’ comedic timing is superb), the humor is funny, and so every episode is entertaining and a lot of fun to watch.

Let’s see then if the Korean drama’s ratings start rising after this. There are eight more episodes still to air, after all, and anything can happen in that time.

Meanwhile, even though the recently ended When Life Gives You Tangerines did not make it onto the list, its stars — IU and Park Bo Gum — are still #1 and #2 on the Most Buzzworthy Drama Actors list.

Go figure!

Update, April 15th, 2025 — Nicely, The Divorce Insurance also saw a small ratings increase this week — nothing spectacular, but at least it’s going up.
